No experience or background necessary – this is for any youth wanting to learn about this exciting industry. In 2024, we held sessions in Anchorage, Sitka, and Seward. This program is sponsored by grant funding and is offered to Alaskan high school students at no cost. Sessions are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm on each day.Anchorage session – 3/11/24 Monday – 3/12/24 Tuesday; Must be age 16+. Session will take place at the Alaska Safety Alliance in addition to field trips in the Anchorage area for hands-on maritime career experiences.Park, pick up/drop off at Alaska Safety Alliance 2600 Cordova St. Suite 1058:30-4:30 on both days.Anchorage Sessions will include:Virtual Reality Tug experience, and tour of FV NORTHERN HAWKTour of the Port of Alaska in AnchorageBoard and tour large-scale shipping vessels, TOTE and MatsonLunch aboard TOTETour Copper River Seafood processing plant with a focus on skilled trades jobsOpportunity to network with maritime professionals including captains, engineers, fish harvesters and seafood processing professionalsSeward session – 3/14/24 Thurs – 3/15/24 Friday; Must be age 15+. Sessions will take place at AVTEC in addition to field trips in the Seward area for hands-on maritime career experiences.Park, pick/up drop off at AVTEC. First Lake Building at 809 Second Avenue. Room 1178:30-4:30 on both days.The Seward session will include:Experiences on AVTEC’s full-mission bridge simulator – one of the most robust maritime training simulator suites in the United States.Career talk at the Seward Sea Life CenterHarbor tour and conversation with Seward HarbormasterJag Shipyard Tour – the second largest shipyard north of Seattle.Tour of the Alaska Marine Highway System Ferry, TustumenaOpportunity to network with maritime professionals including captains, engineers, fish harvesters and seafood processing professionalsSitka session – 3/17/24 Sun – 3/18/24 Monday; ; Must be age 15+.
