Be the Penguin

Pistol grips, gunslinger, duck waddle, penguin walk…there are a lot of ways to describe how we recommend you walk on icy surfaces. They all come down to looking a bit silly, but they will help us get to our destination safely.

You may not be able to get your center of gravity quite as low as penguins or your feet as webbed as ducks, so let’s talk about some of the things we can do!

  1. Shuffle rather than step. Keep your center of gravity forward a bit.
  2. Move your arms out further from your sides to help you keep balance.
  3. Please wear your traction devices. I promise they are less of a pain than falling.

It seems to me that the first thing most of us do when we fall is look around to see who saw us fall. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather look silly walking.
