Teacher Externships

Help guide your students with your own industry experience!

The Teacher Industry Externship (TIE) program provides a unique, interactive professional development experience for Alaskan educators.

Each externship is specifically designed by our industry partners as a way to educate teachers so that they are able to enlighten their students about careers available right here in Alaska.

Over the years, more than 135 teachers have worked alongside or job shadowed drilling crews, geologists, fish biologists, health and safety departments, marketing teams, skilled tradespeople, and underground miners – to name but a few!

Through our partnership with the University of Alaska, ASA has created meaningful coursework aligned with the industry experience, which provides a model for teachers to develop meaningful career awareness activities and relevant lesson plans.

Our industry members support Alaska’s teachers, and understand the influence educators can have on career choices. ASA externships are a valuable tool for companies, providing effective, long-term student outreach and career awareness. Participation as a teacher host and ongoing financial supporter of the TIE program is an investment in Alaska’s youth. The TIE program is a part of how, in partnership with ASA, industry can help develop a well-trained and ready future workforce to support growth and a healthy economy.

Thank you to all the companies who have shared their employees, projects, and culture to provide an Alaska teacher with the knowledge to help their students plan for the future.
